- Improve energy and resource efficiency in Gunnison Valley’s homes and businesses;
- Encourage the development and use of renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and alternative fuels.
Community Goals: Energy Action Planning
In 2007, ORE began facilitating energy planning. Learn more about Gunnison County's community goals and plans for energy and sustainability efforts.
Background
In 2003, several community members were inspired to establish an entity in the Gunnison Valley to serve as a clearinghouse for energy and resource efficiency knowledge. One of the primary objectives was to mitigate the often prohibitive costs of residing in an exceptionally cold climate. This entity would help the Valley’s 15,000 some citizens to use resources more economically and manage pressures from rising costs of living, a seasonal job market, high heating expenses, and high transportation costs.
After a well-attended Public Energy Forum, the community’s fervent interest and support brought the concept to fruition. By the end of 2003, the Office for Resource Efficiency (ORE) was established as a non-profit corporation.
To date, ORE continues to carry out the work of its mission, serving as an accessible resource for energy efficiency in the Gunnison Valley. ORE has grown considerably since its establishment, in terms of its partnerships, outreach efforts, programs and staff.
